Top three ways to make a difference starting this Christmas

This holiday season is a time to reflect, to remember those less fortunate. This is THE year for that. There are those out there must less fortunate than you.
I'm not talking about Wall Street, banks, the auto makers with archaic UAW contacts, and government waste who brought on our economic train wreck and expect the taxpayers to bail them out.

Here is a short list of ways to start helping in your community where it counts.

The Salvation Army
The number one charity (and most efficient) that gives the most funds and donations directly back to the local community in need has long been The Salvation Army.
Peter Drucker called The Salvation Army “the most efficient corporation in the world.” Less than 15% of all income is spent on administration - the rest goes directly to those in need.
Consider giviing a contribution as you pass by the bell ringer, donating your used clothes, unwanted items, money, or even donating your time.

The USO
Remember our soldiers far from home. They need to know they are appreciated and remembered, especially during the holidays. You can volunteer or donate to the USO and help our soldiers know they are our heroes.

Big Brothers Big Sisters
There are many more worthwhile programs. Big Brothers Big Sisters is one I participate in and highly recommend. It's a lot of fun. If you have a few hours free a month, you can help make a difference in a kids life.

For those wondering why the United Way did not make my short list, it is because they have and paid their upper management extravagant salaries and not used donated funds wisely over the years.
One recent example, the United Way made four contributions to the Clinton Foundation. Why?

There are tons of other worthwhile charities and ways to donate your money or time to benefit your local community. Just do a Google search for other ideas.

Wishing you and yours the best this Christmas and New Year. Make it count.
