Feature Accommodations - Inn At 1816 Postoffice Bed & Breakfast
Galveston, Texas

Built in 1886 by Theodore Ohmstede, the two-house is an L shaped American Victorian design, with a two-level front porch with wood detail design popular in Galveston before the turn of the century.
After being a private residence, the house was later a boarding house, and has been a B&B well over 10 years.

Each of the six rooms available exude a Southern charm with a French elegance, and are filled with vintage antiques and paintings by area artists. Personal photographs and memorabilia of the Ohmstede family are to be found in various rooms. The 1816 Suite includes a queen size sleigh bed, heart shaped Jacuzzi, with private garden area, perfect for honeymooners. Our room, the Theodore Room, included a queen size bed, with walk through windows to the the upper level porch and a vintage English pull chain commode.

Each room is detailed with Includes five rooms with private bathrooms. The house is appointed with central air and heat.

Breakfast included varied pastries, eggs benedict, with hash browns and hollandaise sauce, served with fresh orange juice, bananas, and cereals. A patriotic decoration and flower arrangements added to the festivities, with tables arranged with fresh cut roses. The meal was complete with a delicious peach cobbler with yogurt topping.


To the left of the front entrance hall is a game room with pool table and a wide selection of games.

The front fence is alive with hibiscus and yellow flowers. Relax on the front porch or upstairs porch veranda, or explore the city.Bicycles are available to ride around the historic district neighborhood and the nearby Strand area, which is just a block away. Children over 12 are welcome. There is no smoking or pets allowed.

Directions:
I-45 becomes Highway 87, then Broadway once in Galveston. From Broadway, you will turn left onto 19th Street and travel 5 blocks, then turn right at Postoffice (one way street). The Inn is on the left side of the street across from a parking lot. Reserved parking for guests is available directly behind the Inn.
